Duties

Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS) is seeking a Scientist to join its Environmental Organization. This team is responsible for a diverse set of functions, including environmental monitoring, management of ecological and cultural resources, compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), noxious weed management, and environmental permitting. The primary responsibility for this position will be to lead the Geographic Information System (GIS) activities for the Environmental Organization. The incumbent will be charged with maintaining and developing vector and raster geospatial datasets, processing, organizing, and updating GIS data, and producing static map products using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. Key duties include creating maps and figures for Environmental Reviews, Clearance Letters, organizational reports, other contract deliverables and reports required by the Department of Energy (DOE). The Scientist will create resource map books and figures, digitize and correct legacy spatial data, rectify and georeference historical maps and aerial imagery, and closely coordinate with HMIS's Geospatial Information Technology Services (GITS) team ensuring the Environmental organization GIS applications and collections are remaining current with industry progression. The position also involves analyzing GIS data, including Lidar datasets like point clouds and digital elevation models (DEM) to support environmental interpretation and decision-making. Managing Trimble survey equipment and ArcGIS Field Maps will be necessary for efficient field data collection, and the candidate will provide technical support within the Environmental Department for Esri products including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Field Maps, and ArcGIS Survey123. The Scientist will be responsible for producing high-quality maps and geospatial visualizations using GIS software and online tools for internal documents, presentations, and other communication platforms. They will help streamline the collection of geospatial information during field walkdowns and ensure this data is accessible across the organization. Maintaining thorough records and documentation of geospatial data and project activities is essential for compliance and quality assurance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, show flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment, and commit to ongoing professional development and learning in geospatial technologies relevant to the Environmental organization. In addition to geospatial responsibilities, the candidate will stay abreast of Hanford site-wide activities and assess their potential impact on the Environmental programs, monitor regulatory changes, lead special projects and initiatives, and support the Environmental Monitoring program including evaluation of analytical data, manage environmental data, and report findings. The candidate will review and evaluate analytical results and final packages against contract requirements and program needs, investigate anomalous data, support environmental sample collection and processing, and waste management. Lead, coordinate, review, and author environmental plans, reports, and schedules for the Hanford Site. This position also involves providing process and procedural guidance for environmental monitoring projects and facilitating communication with regulatory agencies. The Scientist is responsible for ensuring sampling schematics meet regulatory requirements and are scientifically sound, and for ensuring the technical quality and completeness of all procedures and reports associated with the Environmental Monitoring program. Provides technical guidance to the Environmental Organization. Ensure technical excellence and completeness in all environmental program elements and deliverables. Develop and maintain environmental processes, create and maintain procedures, and provide training, as required.

Qualifications

*Ability to obtain and maintain a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential badge. *Bachelor of Science degree. *5 years of experience in geospatial data management, map product development, geospatial data processing, and/or geospatial application support. *Knowledge of environmental monitoring. *Working experience with Esri products including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Field Maps, and ArcGIS Survey123. *Strong verbal and written communication skills. *Proficient with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite. Senior Level *Ability to obtain and maintain a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential badge. *Bachelor of Science degree plus 9 years of experience and advanced proficiency in geospatial data management, map product development, geospatial data processing, and/or geospatial application support -OR- an equivalent combination of education and experience. *Knowledge of environmental monitoring and sample data analysis. *Familiarity with environmental regulations. *Advanced working experience with Esri products including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Field Maps, and ArcGIS Survey123. *Strong verbal and written communication skills. *Proficient with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite.

Compensation
