Duties
Perform fire suppression, hazardous materials, emergency medical, rescue, inspection, testing and maintenance activities in accordance with NFPA requirements as required by DOE Order 420.1. Successfully participate in and complete the Hanford Fire Department (HFD) new-hire Firefighter academy as well as the Washington State Firefighter Apprenticeship Program (3 years), including off-plant class time at an accredited higher education institution. In the first year of employment must successfully complete both an initial hire Firefighter recruit academy and a probationary evaluation period. This is an entry level position initially assigned to a day-shift Mon-Thurs during training.
Qualifications
*Possess a high school diploma or GED. *Must have valid and current National Testing Network CPAT and FireTEAM tests. *International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard Firefighter 1. *National Registry Emergency Medical Technician – Basic, or Washington State Emergency Medical Technician - Basic. *Must become WA-EMT-B within 18-Weeks of hire. *IFSAC or ProBoard Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations level certifications. *Must meet predetermined medical/physical fitness requirements. *Must pass an annual HFD physical fitness assessment. *Must possess/obtain and maintain a valid WA State Driver's License. *Successful applicants must continue to meet all required certifications and standards throughout employment, (e.g.: NPFA standards, Department of Energy orders, medical, security, fitness, etc.). *Ability to obtain and maintain a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential badge. **PLEASE NOTE** Firefighter certifications required to submit with application: (Color copies with dates & seals clearly displayed) *International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard Firefighter 1. *National Registry Emergency Medical Technician – Basic or Washington State *Emergency Medical Technician - Basic. *IFSAC or ProBoard Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations level certifications.

In compliance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Field Office (HFO) direction, employees issued initial badges on or after September 1st, 2025, are required to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential. To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a federal background check investigation. This investigation encompasses multiple areas of eligibility and includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.
