Duties
Provide contamination and radiation exposure control. Perform or direct surveys where procedures have not been established or where unusual conditions are present or expected. Duties may include working with routine and/or special detection equipment. Perform qualitative mask fit for radiological protection. As assigned by management: perform special studies in the evaluation of radiological protection for personnel, environmental, or plant areas; participate in area specific radiation worker qualification and requalification programs; prepare and maintain records and document as appropriate; and provide assistance in the preparation of radiation control documents such as Radiological Work Permits (RWPs), ALARA Management Worksheets (AMWs), etc. May direct and train others. Must certify and maintain Radiological Control Technician (RCT) certification/qualification in accordance with the terms of the Part 5 Training and Certification/Qualification Program.
Qualifications
* High School diploma or GED. * Must be able to pass (at 80%) and maintain Radiological Control Technician Department of Energy (DOE) Fundamental and Core Academics qualifications. * Carry/use instrumentation weighing up to 30 lbs. * Wear Air Purifying Respirator (APR), Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR), and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) respiratory protection. * Ability to wear anti-contamination clothing. * Must be able to climb stairs; and perform radiological surveillances that require prolonged bending, stooping, kneeling, sitting, and standing. * Must meet beryllium worker requirements (medically cleared and qualified). * Ability to obtain and maintain a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential badge.

In compliance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Field Office (HFO) direction, employees issued initial badges on or after September 1st, 2025, are required to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential. To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a federal background check investigation. This investigation encompasses multiple areas of eligibility and includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.
