Position Summary The Waste Shipper is responsible for supporting the compliant preparation and shipment of radioactive and chemical waste regulated as U.S. Department of Transportation hazardous material. This position applies transportation requirements to waste characterization, packaging, documentation, marking, labeling, placarding, carrier coordination, and shipment execution. The successful candidate will work within a safety-focused environment and coordinate with waste management, radiological control, environmental, operations, and transportation personnel to ensure shipments are accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable requirements. Responsibilities Prepare and coordinate shipments of radioactive and chemical waste regulated as DOT hazardous material. Review waste profiles, shipping descriptions, classifications, packaging selections, quantities, and supporting records for accuracy and completeness. Prepare and verify shipping papers, manifests, package markings, labels, and placards required for each shipment. Inspect packages and shipment configurations before release to confirm compliance with applicable transportation and site requirements. Coordinate shipment schedules, carrier arrangements, pickup activities, and required communications with internal organizations and external transportation providers. Apply applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements to motor-carrier shipments and shipment planning activities. Maintain organized shipment files and records that support traceability, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness. Identify and resolve shipment documentation or compliance issues before waste is released for transportation. Perform work in accordance with established safety, radiological control, chemical handling, quality, security, and environmental requirements.
Qualifications
Requirements One to three years of experience shipping radioactive and chemical waste regulated as DOT hazardous material. Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations applicable to hazardous-material transportation. Current Advanced Radiological Transportation training or qualification. Current Advanced Chemical Transportation or Advanced Mixed Waste training or qualification. Working knowledge of hazardous-material shipping documentation, packaging, marking, labeling, and placarding requirements. Ability to review detailed technical and regulatory information and produce accurate, complete shipment records. Ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, carriers, and other shipment stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Experience preparing or coordinating rail shipments of radioactive, chemical, or mixed waste. Experience supporting waste-shipping activities in a DOE, nuclear, environmental remediation, or similarly regulated operating environment. Education and Experience One to three years of experience shipping radioactive and chemical waste regulated as DOT hazardous material is required. Current Advanced Radiological Transportation training or qualification and current Advanced Chemical Transportation or Advanced Mixed Waste training or qualification are required.
