Position Summary Under limited supervision, the Construction Supervisor I/II performs construction support functions assigned by management and assists with construction, construction support, and field engineering activities. The role plans and coordinates work, supervises construction personnel, and provides technical and functional support for complex construction activities in an environmental restoration setting. This position is responsible for helping execute assigned work safely and effectively while meeting contract requirements, quality standards, schedules, staffing needs, and budgetary guidelines. The Construction Supervisor I/II interfaces with project and engineering management, client representatives, auditors, design engineers, construction support disciplines, and specialized service providers to address requirements and resolve problems affecting construction activities. Responsibilities Plan, schedule, organize, coordinate, and direct work to ensure effective employee utilization and compliance with contract requirements, quality standards, safety requirements, and budgetary guidelines. Maintain appropriate staffing levels for the assigned scope of work and supervise and coordinate the activities of construction support personnel or engineers, as assigned. Provide direction, instruction, leadership, motivation, training, and evaluation to construction personnel, including communicating work methods and performance expectations. Provide group supervision and administration while supporting positive employee relations. Interface with internal and external groups, senior management, project and engineering management, client representatives, auditors, design engineers, and sources of specialized construction and technical information. Develop, review, update, and implement construction plans, programs, policies, procedures, quality assurance programs, and training programs, as needed. Prepare and deliver presentations to project senior management and support assigned budgetary responsibilities. Oversee investigations of waste management facilities and evaluate environmental waste transportation, treatment, and disposal vendors for acceptability. Develop and oversee quality assurance and training programs related to the handling of radioactive and other hazardous waste. Make independent decisions to address and resolve problems and to plan and coordinate work. Apply diversified knowledge of construction and technical principles, practices, methods, advanced techniques, and procedures to a range of assignments. Provide comprehensive professional construction and technical support for unique requirements and problems that may significantly affect construction activities. Initiate and maintain contact with individuals and organizations capable of providing specialized services for unique or unusual requirements. Serve as a subject matter expert and provide technical and functional support to the Construction team on complex or difficult work. Perform work in accordance with approved safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations; ensure supervised personnel follow established safety requirements and safe work practices. Actively participate in Safety Work Groups and perform special projects and other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
BA/BS degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Construction Supervisor I: At least 8 years of related experience. Construction Supervisor II: At least 10 years of related experience. Progressive and varied experience in construction and technical activities, with the ability to perform complex to difficult work under limited supervision. Knowledge of construction, construction support, field engineering, work planning, supervision, quality assurance, training, safety, and compliance requirements. Ability to work in an environmental restoration environment that may include outdated or abandoned facilities and potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals or solvents, and hazardous or radioactive materials. Ability to wear a respirator and other required protective equipment and to enter potentially hazardous areas involving chemicals, dust, fumes, mists, heat stress, high noise, radiation, or other hazards. Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods; carry instruments, equipment, or tools; and perform repeated pushing, pulling, lifting, lowering, carrying, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and reaching. Ability to perform medium to very heavy work, including exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and more than 20 pounds constantly; lifting above 45 pounds requires a two-person buddy system. Ability to work in confined areas, tanks, weather or temperature extremes, and inclement weather, and around moving equipment, machinery, and motorized vehicles. Ability to complete radiological training when required and operate a company vehicle when assigned while complying with all safety and DOT regulations and procedures. Preferred Qualifications Typical overall experience of 10 to 15 years in related construction and technical activities. Experience supporting environmental restoration, hazardous or radioactive material operations, waste management facilities, or the evaluation of waste transportation, treatment, and disposal vendors. Experience developing or overseeing construction quality assurance and training programs, including programs related to radioactive or hazardous waste handling. Experience coordinating across construction support disciplines, projects, design engineering, management, clients, auditors, and specialized service providers. Education and Experience Construction Supervisor I requires a BA/BS degree in a related field or equivalent and 8 years of related experience. Construction Supervisor II requires a BA/BS degree in a related field or equivalent and 10 years of related experience. Typical experience for either level ranges from 10 to 15 years.
