Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) leads the nation's largest and most complex radioactive waste cleanup effort. Every day, our teams work to safely remove, treat, and dispose of 56 million gallons of legacy tank waste at the Hanford Site in Richland, Washington. At H2C, your work has a meaningful impact—today and for future generations. H2C is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Field Innovation and Infrastructure Engineering (FIIE) organization. FIIE is responsible for leading the creation of innovative engineered solutions to all aspects of the tank waste treatment and disposal mission, with the main focus of enhancing worker safety in the performance of this high-risk work. The scope of this creation spans ideation to field implementation, often with significant input from the craft executing work and interacting with the engineered equipment. The FIIE team is also responsible for the engineering expertise and project execution associated with tank farm infrastructure upgrades – e.g., waste transfer pumps, jumpers, valves, instruments, pipelines, hose-in-hose transfer lines – across all tank farm operations, current and future. The Field Innovation and Infrastructure Engineering Manager reports directly to Operations Projects Engineering Manager and will oversee the day-to-day conduct and progress of Engineering deliverables associated with the aforementioned scope. The FIIE manager will also be expected to interact on a daily basis and team with other Operations Projects Engineering managers to provide and look for efficiencies in engineering work execution. Responsibilities: * Provide leadership and technical direction for the FIIE organization including representation of the organization to executive staff, customers, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders. * Working closely with other Engineering organizations (both internal and external), Projects, Construction and Operations to execute both expense and capital funded upgrades to tank farms to maximize waste processing performance and throughput, all in compliance with H2C engineering policies, programs, procedures, and standards to support the development of engineering products. * Develop and maintain resources and associated qualifications for the organization to successfully accomplish project scope in-line with the project schedules and deliverables. * Establish and reinforce Conduct of Engineering and Human Performance expectations. * Manage assigned scope and subordinates including evaluating personnel performance and providing professional development feedback. * Mentor engineers and technical staff to enhance the technical and strategic thinking capabilities of the organization. * Coordinate, lead and/or participate in meetings and workshops to review strategic concept developments, strategies, plans, studies, and reports and to resolve emerging issues. * Perform engineering evaluations and studies and prepare formal and informal documents and presentations. * Perform engineering document technical reviews and validation/verification functions. * Support technical issue resolution with internal/external stakeholders and external regulatory organizations. * Demonstrate high level of interpolative thinking and mature engineering judgment. * Lead and provide technical oversight of subcontractor performance and deliverables. * Develop monthly performance reports and Award Fee Criteria. * Build a strong and positive relationship with the DOE-HFO counterparts. * Liaise with the other engineering departments within H2C to utilize the multi-discipline / cross-functional engineering and technical Subject Matter Expertise, as necessary to support successful waste processing and disposal activities.
Qualifications
Grade 21: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; with Ten (10) years related experience. Grade 22: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; with Twelve (12) years related experience. Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased. Grade 23: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; with Fourteen (14) years related experience. Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Compensation
In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, H2C takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial grade and salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made at the appropriate grade level and within the targeted hiring range posted according to these factors. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
