Overall Industrial Architect & Systems Integration Manager
Employer: Framatome · Location: Richland, WA · Posting: FRA-3429 · Type: Full-Time · Pay: $146,000-$199,000/yr
Duties
Why This Role Is Critical: As the need for nuclear energy grows, the future couldn’t be brighter. Join our vital mission to create lasting solutions for our planet’s greatest challenges. In this role, you are ready to shape the future of clean energy and make a long-lasting global impact. With us, anticipate engaging and challenging projects that deliver innovative solutions and value-added technologies helping power more than 38 million North American homes. What You’Ll Do Day-To-Day: Architecture, Requirements, and Systems Engineering: • Define, formalize, and deploy the systems engineering processes applicable to the program, including the Systems Engineering Management Plan, the Configuration Management Plan, the Interface Management Plan, and the Technical Data Management Plan, as well as BIM requirements when applicable. • Propose the system architecture and its breakdown, taking into account cost, schedule, and risks, and ensure alignment with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). • Define the expected system performance through need statements, technical requirement specifications, and functional requirement documents. • Establish the functional and product architecture of the system, identify external interfaces, define system functions, and allocate them to subsystems and equipment. • Collect, consolidate, and manage stakeholder requirements: process performance, safety, security, quality, operations, maintenance, environment, and infrastructure. • Own the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM), from high level needs down to detailed equipment specifications and compliance evidence. • Lead the development of technical specifications and performance requirements for work package owners and execution entities. • Assess technical, cost, and schedule risks associated with architecture choices and define appropriate mitigation plans. Technical Planning and System Development Management: • Define the activities required for system design, manufacturing, integration, commissioning, and qualification. • Establish the logic and sequencing of technical activities and contribute to the structuring of the work program. • Define the technical content expected from execution entities through technical specifications, statements of work, technical appendices, and contractual documents. • Ensure consistency between system requirements, development activities, and expected deliverables throughout the product lifecycle. Integration and Interface Management: • Define and maintain the overall integration plan to ensure coherent subsystem assembly and effective interface control. • Identify, specify, and manage physical, functional, organizational, and operational interfaces between project stakeholders and work packages. • Manage interfaces between new systems and existing facilities, especially in brownfield environments where interactions with operating installations represent a major risk. • Ensure technical consistency across engineering disciplines and arbitrate any deviations or inconsistencies identified. • Define and monitor action plans required to resolve integration and interface issues. • Oversee technical ncoordination, the digital mockup, and the facilitation of constructability reviews and clash detection with engineering teams. Configuration Management and Change Control: • Ensure system configuration control and maintain a defined and approved technical baseline at each project milestone. • Identify all data, documents, and models that constitute the system’s reference configuration. • Define and apply configuration management processes to ensure coherent and traceable changes. • Prepare and lead Change Control Boards, review change requests, and coordinate impact analyses on cost, schedule, safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. • Monitor deviations, non-conformities, exemptions, and technical waivers until closure. • Maintain technical registers, decision logs, and program action plans. • Ensure the transfer of complete, consistent, and usable design documentation to future operators. Verification, Validation, and Compliance: • Define the Verification & Validation (V&V) strategy, associated plan, and system acceptance criteria. • Plan, prepare, and lead design reviews, maturity reviews, and technical compliance reviews. • Coordinate monitoring and evaluation of deliverables produced by execution entities to ensure compliance with defined requirements and specifications. • Lead the collection and assessment of evidence demonstrating the achievement of expected system performance. • Ensure V&V activities are carried out in accordance with systems engineering processes and program requirements. • Ensure consistency of acceptance criteria across design, testing, commissioning, qualification, and transition to operations. • Establish and consolidate the final compliance matrix demonstrating fulfillment of system requirements and performance objectives. Technical Leadership: • Coordinate multidisciplinary and multi-site teams without direct hierarchical authority while ensuring overall technical coherence of the program. • Define, promote, and ensure adoption of systems engineering methods, practices, processes, and tools within the project. • Provide necessary technical arbitration to support decision making and ensure alignment among stakeholders on major program choices. • Represent the company to the client on technical matters within the assigned scope. • Provide technical support for interactions with regulatory authorities and for compliance demonstration activities. • Act as the guarantor of system technical consistency throughout its lifecycle, from need definition to operational start up. Required Qualifications • Proven systems engineering experience in a project execution context: requirements management and traceability, interface management, configuration control, and V&V planning. • Experience integrating new process systems within an operating facility, including constraints related to interfaces, constructability, and operational continuity. • Strong knowledge of industrial or manufacturing processes enabling constructive challenge of suppliers regarding performance, production capabilities, and acceptance criteria. • Ability to maintain a technical baseline despite schedule pressure and escalate issues when proposed changes are not technically acceptable. Desired Skills • Experience in the nuclear fuel cycle, radiological processes, or other highly regulated industrial facilities. • Knowledge of systems engineering practices per ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and INCOSE standards, as well as requirements and configuration management tools. • Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), digital mockup, and 3D integration for industrial installations. • Experience in design control within a nuclear quality program and interactions with a Design Authority. • Experience working in international and multicultural project organizations.
