The Industrial Hygiene (IH) Department seeks a Quality Assurance Engineer (QAE) to provide full-time matrixed support and department QA SME lead responsibilities to ensure a robust IH QAPP is implemented, maintained, and periodically assessed for performance to TFC-PLN-02 drivers and requirements. In addition, this position will serve as the QA oversight for four external BMA contracted off-site contract laboratories. The QAE will ensure that all laboratory services and processes are compliant with DOE, HMIS QAPP, and regulatory requirements, and that contract laboratories maintain robust, effective QA programs. Job Responsibilities/Duties * Provide QA/QC engineering services in support of Hanford Tank Waste Operations and Closure and Industrial Hygiene Department activities. * Exercise professional independent judgment and make frequent decisions guided by principles of quality assurance. * Analyze, evaluate, and plan methods of approach to solve complex QA-related technical problems. * Organize resources and methods to achieve resolution of significant QA assignments. * Conduct investigations and complex tests; review projects and processes; evaluate and report results. * Support periodic desktop and triennial on-site quality surveillances of subcontract laboratories. * Verify compliance with ESH&Q requirements outlined in SOW for subcontract laboratories during surveillance and assessments. * Verify and assess laboratory accreditation and QA/QC processes (AIHA-LAP, DOE-LAP, HASQARD, ANSI, ISO 17025, TNI). * Participate in updating/revising the Industrial Hygiene Quality Assurance Program Plan (TFC-PLN-181), including establishing oversight processes and approaches. * Perform validation of inorganic, organic, and radiochemistry analytical raw data as required. * Participate in creation, management, and reporting of analytical process metrics; develop and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). * Provide oversight and assessment of contract laboratory contract generation and performance. * Perform laboratory assessments and participate in national auditing programs, such as DOE Corrective Action Plan (CAP). * Conduct independent assessments and surveillances of IH-DTM work scope, including systems, processes, and equipment used. * Maintain surveillance schedules and requirements for IH Department analytical services and laboratory oversight * Initiate and monitor Subcontractor Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) until resolution. * Perform workload distribution analysis, tracking monthly hours and scoping assignments. * Participate in establishing targeted training initiatives for IH personnel that foster overall data quality improvement (through SWIHD Peer Review Board, IH Data Quality Council). * Review and QA a minimum of 10% of analytical deliverables received from subcontractor laboratories (per TFC-ESHQ-IH-C-75 Sec. 4.3). * Some travel may be required to participate in assessments of contract laboratories. * Complete other duties as assigned, in support of ongoing improvement initiatives within IH Department for FY26/27.
Qualifications
Grade 18: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Engineering, Physical Science, or related field and 6 years of related QA/QC experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Grade 19: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Engineering, Physical Science, or related field and 8 years of related QA/QC experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. - Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased. Grade 20: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Engineering, Physical Science, or related field and 10 years of related QA/QC experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. - Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.
Compensation
In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, H2C takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial grade and salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made at the appropriate grade level and within the targeted hiring range posted according to these factors. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
